Technology Tree Monthly Update (May 2022)

Technology Tree delivering our latest edition of updates, ideas and collaborations.

Hello from the team @ Technology Tree

A short update this month as the team continues to work hard on protecting your IT environment!

To keep up to date with what’s happening in the IT world on a regular basis, follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter.

Australia’s Newest Domain

Australia now has it’s own country code top level domain: .au. If you hold a domain name in any other .au namespace (eg. com.au, id.au etc.), that was created prior to 24 March 2022 you’ll be able to apply for Priority Status to register its exact match in .au direct during the six-month period from launch.

We are currently reaching out to all clients that we manage domain names for. We have been inundated with registration requests; if you haven’t heard from us yet, you will soon!

You can Now Ask Google to Remove Your Phone Number, Email or Address from Search Results

Google has announced that it is expanding the types of data people can ask to have removed from search results, to include personal contact information like your phone number, email address or physical address. The move comes just months after Google rolled out a new policy enabling people under the age of 18 (or a parent/guardian) to request removal of their images from Google search results.

While Google’s removal of a search result from its index will do nothing to remove the offending content from the site that is hosting it, getting a link decoupled from Google search results is going to make the content at that link far less visible.

For more information on how to remove your personal information from Google, click here.

REMINDER!

Windows Users
It is very important to ensure your devices are being updated which should be happening automatically even whilst working from home, depending on your home internet. The latest version is Windows 10 version 21H2. If you want to know more about what is new in this version here.

Patch Tuesday: Microsoft regularly releases software patches usually every second Tuesday of every month for its software products. Please make sure you apply and restart you computer this week to have these updates applied to your device. For those of you who we managed under a service agreement we will be monitoring and will be in touch if they’re not being applied.

How to update: Allow yourself at least 10 – 15 minutes to fully shutdown and restart your system. This ensures patches are applied, this can also address (and solve) some problems you may be having with your system. You can also manually check by following steps that can be found here.
